People First Party will give Papua New Guineans their fundamental rights to education for free. We will ensure quality education is accessible and affordable for all Papua New Guineans.
People First Party recognizes quality education and skills development as the ladder to our future prosperity. Thus, our investment in education has a long-term focus of moving Papua New Guinea from a natural-resource dependent economy towards a knowledge-based economy.
Our strategies to deliver quality education, skills development and life-long learning for all includes:
- Improving quality of education in rural PNG Districts through the concept of District Schools of Excellence;
- Build more technical colleges in every province;
- Set new standards for minimum teacher qualifications;
- Universities: upgrade, increase capacity and improve academic performance. Establish a University Act. University lecturers must have publication record. Universities must have research and development and be benchmarked with rest of the world.
- All tertiary institutions to have accreditation with Australian standard as per the Colombo Plan and our schools to offer Australian standards.
