People First Party is a political institution as well as a people-focused movement that carries the voices and aspirations of Papua New Guineans. We offer citizens meaningful and realistic choices and opportunities for political participation in Papua New Guinea.

We are passionately driven by our shared-vision of making Papua New Guinea and her people economically independent as envisioned by our forefathers.

People First Party was founded in 2001 by former Governor for Morobe Songang Luther Wenge and Secretary General Peter Honale. When Luther Wenge lost the Morobe Governorship in the 2012 National Elections, the Party remained dormant for 9 years until February 2021 when it appointed the Member for Yangoru Saussia, Hon. Richard Maru, as its Parliamentary Party Leader.

Under the leadership of Maru, People First Party has been rebranded with a new shared-vision and membership from right across PNG. The Party is being built into a national institution and upon the dreams of foundations of our forefathers and the efforts of our past and present leaders.

People First Party is a registered political party under Papua New Guinea’s Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates. It is also an incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act administered by the Investment Promotion Authority.
