5. Food Import Replacement and Downstream Processing

We will implement strong import substitution development policy that aims to replace import of food which can be produced locally. We will work our land [agriculture], feed ourselves, and stop the wealth transfer and the robbery of employment and income. Thereby lift our people out of poverty, grow our economic base and increase government revenue.

PFP declares war on all food imports and will offer incentives to attract investments in agriculture, food manufacturing and downstream-processing of our natural resources.

We will:

  1. Replace imports of food like rice, dairy, chicken, pork, fruits and vegetables, beef, canned fish, potato chips, processed coffee, etc;
  2. Downstream process cocoa into by-products;
  3. Establish the PMIZ in Madang, process all fish caught in PNG waters locally, create 40,000 new jobs and increase fisheries revenue from current K500 Million to K2 Billion per year;
  4. Stop the export of round logs by 2025 and downstream process;
  5. Establish a rice institution that will partner with the private sector to develop the local rice industry;
  6. Build industrial parks and free trade zones.
  7. Establish free trade agreement with Indonesia;
  8. Establish PNG Embassy in Jerusalem, Israel, and build partnerships for technology.
